Chester Zoo: Christmas Lanterns

With the worlds population ever expanding Father Christmas has come up with an ingenious idea. The Christmas Lanterns at Chester Zoo! All your favourite zoo hang are now after dark sorting offices, to help in the run up to Delivery Day. One temporary North Pole HQ is Chester Zoo. Where everyone is invited to join in helping light the way for Santa with the Christmas Lanterns.  Watch as Cringle and his elves sort through all Naughty and Nice lists.

Entry

The zoo becomes an enchanting world of fairy tale illuminations and magical theatre shows. For £12 per adult and free for under 3’s your entrance fee will include all entertainment within the park, lanterns to guide your way, a sweet treat at the end and the chance to meet the big man himself, up close.

Animals

It is good to note that although held at the zoo these festivities are not an opportunity to visit the parks residents as all animals are put away to bed in preparation for the bright lights and loud noises however, this does not detract from the experience which in itself is an absolute sensory over load!

Tips

Guests are welcomed to bring their own snacks, but festive, feasting tents line the entry way. Try out their seasonal selection of yummy delights.  Meals can also be pre-booked online for around £8.  In addition to this the coffee shop hosts outside seating areas for picnics. A hot cuppa can be purchased for just £1; perfect for warming your cockles and frosty fingers.

We highly recommend that as well as wrapping up warm you take an umbrella as the entire event is out in the open. You’ll need a little over an hour to explore the park and all its displays.  The path ways are easily navigated with a different display or show every couple of feet. To stop little ones from getting bored the whole experience is  fully interactive, circus of performers, dancing ballerinas and bubble blowing elves. Once you’ve completed the walk make sure to have your letters and lists to Santa ready for posting.
