DIY Christmas Decorations: With Bostik*

It’s that time of year again! DIY Christmas Decorations on the ready. This year Bostik have sent us some awesome craft supplies to help us along. With Theon now three he fully understands Christmas and is ever keen to get involved with some Christmas crafting. As usual (and because I’m working with Theon), I’ve tried to keep all our craft ideas simple. That way they can be pulled out in short burst sessions.

Christmas Cards

We tend to make our own family Christmas cards every year. It’s cheaper but, we also try to use up any scrap materials we have by the end of the year to turn what we make into keepsakes ie not just for throwing away!

You’ll be surprised just what kids can create if you just give them a little leeway. Even better is what you can create by adding to their original designs and creating a collaborative piece of artwork. It’ll mean more to you both that you worked on something together!

Our favourite collab card designs so far have been, the footprint reindeers we did for each child’s first Christmas and this years gingerbread men.

For the reindeer we’ve painted baby’s foot with a mix of non toxic brown paint and gold Bostik glitter glue. Using red, white and black paint for the nose and eye detail.

For the gingerbread men, we’ve cut out gingerbread men shapes from plain brown card. And simply decorated them using the Bostik foam pads with buttons. Finishing them off with Bostik glitter glue smiles.

Twinkle Star

Using cork stars we’ve decorated them with the Bostik glitter glue pens. To adorn our tree with its holy light we’ve created a hook loop using this small star banner.

Baubles

You can find pre-made, paper baubles, purposed for DIY decorations at any hobby store in the run up to Christmas. We’ve taken some and decorated them in a variety of ways. The most simplest of which by just writing our initials in glitter glue.

Slightly more complicated are the holly adorned baubles. Using Bostik PVA to cover the baubles in gold tissue paper, we then used the Bostik foam pads again to build up the decoration of the holly leaves and berries.

For a variety of bauble ideas why not take a look at our Pinterest board. It’s full of pins like this Christmas pudding! It’s also a great way to get your creative juices flowing and spur on some of your own ideas.

Larger Christmas Decorations

The great thing about PVA glue is that it can be used as an adhesive on a multitude of materials. Allowing you to go big or small on what you make.

We’ve made this design on both wood and card for indoor and outdoor decorations. Using Bostik PVA glue to stick on all the decorations. Once dry, PVA is extremely weather proof!

You don’t need to be an artist to get crafty, you just a need a few good, but simple ideas and the right materials.

So, what you waiting for? It’s Christmas next month!

Much love and merriment,

Berrit x

Yeah you don’t have to be Toni Heart to make these kind of things, I think the hardest part is finding the time to have fun making memories!
