Makry Yialos is located on the south-east coast of Crete and is an absolute family favourite of ours. With it’s shallow shores and thriving hive of activities it’s very family friendly. So, here’s out top 3 must do’s!

Beach & Bathe

Famous for it’s warm shallow waters, the shore line in Makry Yialos is perfect for kids and first time bathers. Lined with trees and umbrellas, it’s also easy to find shade for little ones. Makry Yialos beach life has to be number 1 on our top 3.

Pirate Paradise

“Eye patch, pirates hat, swash buckling cheer!…” It’s the pirates life for us. Take a pirate cruise to some of the local picturesque islands and walk the plank into the beautifully clear blue, south cretian waters.

Food Glorious Food

Did you actually even go to Crete if you didn’t try the food!? Our top shout out comes from Theo (uncle) Georgie, who knows all the best spots. With food good enough to kill ya gran for! Although you really don’t have to! We recommend Taverna Kalliotzina. During peak seasons we suggest you book a head. But it’s well worth it, with tables on the beach and the most beautiful sunset look out spot! She’ll feed you up to your eye balls and have you wanting to extend your stay just to eat your way through the entire menu!

Not many people venture this far when visiting Crete and in all honesty I’m secretly glad as it means we can always find good spots where ever we go, no matter what we do. But the truth is if you can you should definitely head over to the south-east side of the island. It has so many untouched/unspoilt areas for relaxing as well as some top party places perfect for all age groups within any family!
