Top 5: Binge Watch Shows For 2020

I’ve probably watched more TV this year, than collectively throughout the rest of my life! So here’s my top 5 binge watch shows for 2020.

I May Destroy You

“If you can’t remember it, how could you consent? Resisting the label of sexual assault victim, Arabella takes on the painful, freeing climb to who she could be. From Michaela Coel.”

This series is my number 1 TV show to binge watch. It comes with infinite trigger warnings. However, I really think it may be my all time favourite find for 2020, if not the decade! Be prepared to have all your ethics and beliefs turned on their head and presented back to you. Coel ruthlessly disects topics around rape, race, sexism and sexuality in a very raw and beautiful way.

This Is Us

“An American romantic family drama television series created by Dan Fogelman that premiered on NBC on September 20, 2016. The series follows the lives and families of two parents, and their three children, in several different time frames.”

Deep sigh, I can’t believe it’s over! This series has been absolute therapy for me. I originally began watching it just after Theon was born and immediately fell in love with it. But life as a new mum took over and so I didn’t actually get to finish watching it until this year. And oh boy it was worth the wait. It’s honestly one of those shows that once you’re done watching it, you’re left not knowing how to go on living without it!

Little Fires Everywhere

Little Fires Everywhere is an American dramaweb television miniseries, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Celeste Ng. It premiered on Hulu on March 18, 2020 and consists of eight episodes.[1] The series stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, both of whom were also executive producers, alongside Liz Tigelaar, Lauren Neustadter, and Pilar Savone. Set in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, Ohio during the late 1990s, it features Witherspoon and Washington as mothers from different socioeconomic backgrounds.”

A really easy to watch show, with decent story lines and an epic cast line up. I mean the fact it’s set in the 90’s and stars 90’s teen king and queen Joshua Jackson and Reece Witherspoon is way more than enough reason to watch for me.

Harlots

Harlots is a British-American period drama television series created by Alison Newman and Moira Buffini and inspired by The Covent Garden Ladies by British historian Hallie Rubenhold. The series focuses on Margaret Wells, who runs a brothel in 18th-century London and struggles to secure a better future for her daughters amid an unpredictable environment.”

We’ve just finished watching the second series. Both G and I have enjoyed watching all the plot twists and lively characters.

Love Life

“Anna Kendrick stars in a fresh take on a romantic comedy anthology series about the journey from first love to lasting love.”

My expectations for this were so low and in all honesty I originally started watching it as some background noise while I worked. I immediately became hooked and finished it in 3 days! Anna Kendrick is as loveable as ever and the story lines are instantly relatable.

Was so good, I think it helped that I had low expectations not being a huge Witherspoon fan, but I’d now definitely add the books the series is from to my winter read list!
